A path paved with victories, the payment for which is colossal work and constant overcoming of oneself. This is how one can describe the fate of the famous Russian athlete. Elena Isinbaeva is a name known even to those who are not interested in sports, and her achievements are the pride of the whole country.

Elena Isinbaeva was born in Volgograd on June 3, 1982. The father of the future champion, Gadzhi Gafanovich, was a plumber, and her mother, Natalya Petrovna, worked in a boiler room. It was on the initiative of their mother, who dreamed of becoming a basketball player, that the girls (Lena and sister) began to seriously engage in sports.

From early childhood, my parents took my sisters to a sports school. The girl, thanks to hard work, quickly began to achieve the desired results. Her first coach, Alexander Lisovoy, immediately recognized talent in her. Isinbayeva herself admitted that Lisovoy became a second father to her.

For the first ten years, Elena devoted all her strength to gymnastics. When the young athlete turned fifteen years old, she transferred to the Olympic Reserve School. But soon after the transfer, young Isinbayeva was expelled as unpromising.

Elena's coach saved the situation. Lisovoy, who saw the performance of pole vaulters, decided that this would be an excellent chance for Isinbayeva to continue her sports career. The athlete’s mentor turned to athletics coach Evgeniy Trofimov.

Six months later, thanks to the efforts of coach Isinbayeva, she grew from a young athlete into a real champion.

Continuation of sports career

The first serious test for Isinbayeva was the World Youth Games held in Moscow in 1998, where the girl took first place. A year later, Isinbayeva set her first record at youth competitions, making a jump of 4.10 m.

And two years later, Isinbayeva was able to exceed her own record by 0.3 meters. After this event, it was decided to include the athlete in the Olympic team. This decision opened the way to new heights, which the girl immediately began to conquer.

The main event of the summer of 2000 was the International Olympics in Sydney. It was there that medals were played for the first time among women athletes. Elena Isinbaeva, representing Russia, did not make it to the finals. But this did not stop the athlete.

Just a year later, at the European Junior Championships, Elena Isinbaeva again won a gold medal and, after her victory, went to the international festival in Berlin, where she set a world record among juniors - a long jump of 4.46 m. In 2003, at the European Championships, Elena won gold, showing an excellent result of 4.65 m. In the same year, on July 14 in Gateshead (Britain), Isinbayeva set a record by performing a jump of 4.82 m.

At the 2004 Olympics, held in Athens, Isinbayeva managed to win her first Olympic medal after a difficult struggle. At first, the athlete almost suffered defeat, failing to take two heights in a row: first 4.70 m, and then 4.75 m. But the third time, the athlete, having conquered a height of 4.80 meters, continued the competition and managed to set a world record of 4.91 m.

But Elena’s victories did not end there: during the next stage of the Grand Prix, held in Monaco in 2008, Isinbayeva broke the world record - 5.04 meters.

At the Beijing Games, the athlete managed to win a new gold medal, setting two records in a row: 4.95 meters and 5.05 meters. Isinbayeva also set two world records at an international competition held in Donetsk, performing jumps of 4.97 and then 5.00 meters.

The successes and records set by the girl glorified the athlete all over the world. In the same year, during a competition held in Zurich, Elena set another record, reaching a height of 5.06 meters. But 2010 began with failures, and successive failures forced the athlete to take a break.

Soon Isinbayeva returned to sports and won the competition at the Russian Winter tournament, held in the winter of 2011. Another record was set by a Russian athlete in 2012 at the Stockholm Grand Prix - 5.01 m.

But Isinbaeva’s further sports life did not last long. On February 8, 2016, a major scandal occurred due to the ban on Russian athletes to take part in international competitions announced by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Isinbayeva was not allowed to participate in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. This decision was perceived by Isinbayeva as a personal insult. The athlete went to court to restore justice, but her claim was rejected. Elena Isinbayeva was never allowed to participate in the games.

Over the years of competitions and sports games, Isinbayeva has been awarded many times by both domestic and foreign sports organizations:

  • Order of Honor for enormous achievements contributing to the development of Russian sports in 2006;
  • Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree in 2009;
  • repeatedly awarded the annual national sports award “Glory”;
  • was recognized by the IAAF as the best athlete of the year three times;
  • in 2006 and 2008, Isinbayeva received the Laureus Academy Award and was recognized as “Sportswoman of the Year”;
  • was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize for Sports in 2009.

Personal life, family, children

From 2006 to 2009, Isinbayeva dated a native Donetsk resident, Artem Khmelenko, who worked as a DJ. As the athlete admitted, their acquaintance was accidental; she met Artem during a training camp in Donetsk.

The affair remained a secret for a long time; Isinbayeva spoke openly about it only in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics. But the establishment of her personal life had a catastrophic effect on the athlete’s career: failures haunted Elena one after another.

The romance ended when Elena found out about her boyfriend’s infidelities. After the breakup, the athlete, giving an interview, said that she would no longer allow anyone to come between her and her sports career.

But soon she began a new romance. This time the chosen one was the master of sports, who was part of the Russian national team, javelin thrower Nikita Petinov. The young people met on a social network and at first simply corresponded. But in 2011, their relationship moved into real life.

Immediately after the 2013 World Championships, held in Moscow, the athlete took a break to improve her personal life and start a family. On June 28, 2014, the couple had a daughter, Eva, and on December 12, 2014, the couple entered into an official marriage. In the winter of 2018, Elena Isinbaeva gave birth to her second child, a son, Dobrynya, named after the epic hero.

The life of athlete Isinbayeva is filled with bright events and memories. The athlete herself willingly shares them with journalists and fans, recalling with pleasure the path she had to take for the sake of worldwide fame and numerous victories.

  1. Isinbayeva’s sports career began in a very unusual way. A young girl who came to the competition was asked about her attitude towards the Ukrainian athlete Sergei Bubka. It turned out that the athlete’s name was unfamiliar to the girl. Ironically, when Elena Isinbaeva began setting world records, her popular nickname became “Bubka in a Skirt.”
  2. 2004 was a significant year for Isinbayeva. There was a real fight for medals between her and another Russian athlete, Svetlana Feofanova. The decisive event was the 2004 Olympics in Beijing. After two unsuccessful jumps, Isinbayeva achieved a height of 4.80 m and became the Olympic champion.
  3. Elena Isinbaeva has developed her own tactics for the jumps she performs: the first is considered a warm-up, the second is considered a winning one, and the third is performed with the aim of setting a new record. The three poles that help perform jumps differ in color: the first is pink, the second is blue, and Elena uses a golden pole to set records.

Elena Isinbaeva now - latest news

Elena Isinbayeva’s resumption of sports caused a sea of emotions and many comments. Elena recently posted a photo from the gym on Instagram. The athlete herself admits that, despite the difficulties, the training brings her great pleasure.

During the time after Isinbayeva left the sport, the athlete managed to receive the status of a confidant of the president, join the group of observers of Roskachestvo, decorate the cover of a glossy magazine with her photograph, participate in a culinary show, and most importantly, experience all the joys of motherhood.

Conclusion

Elena Isinbaeva amazes many with her willpower, hard work and success. Her achievements are the pride of the whole country. The record holder, who has experienced ups and downs, but has never given up in the face of difficulties, is an example for aspiring athletes.

With her achievements, she has repeatedly proven that the main obstacle is the fear of defeat. And the main task of an athlete is, first of all, to fight with himself. Having overcome his weaknesses, a person can win any competition, no matter how difficult it may seem.

The future athlete Elena Isinbaeva was born in 1982, on June 3, in the city of Volgograd. Elena’s dad, Gadzhi Gafanovich, came to Volgograd from Dagestan and met the athlete’s future mother, Natalya Petrovna, who at that time worked as a boiler room operator. The athlete’s father still works as a plumber. It is not difficult to guess that the Isinbayevs did not have the opportunity to live in grand style, and the girls (Inessa is the athlete’s younger sister) were brought up in strictness. Elena and Inessa’s mother, as a child, played sports, namely basketball, but she was unable to devote her life to sports due to difficult circumstances. That is why Natalya Petrovna wanted her daughters to make her childhood dreams come true.

Gymnast's childhood

Since childhood, Elena and Inessa participated in artistic gymnastics competitions. At home, girls often competed with each other. However, Inessa soon quit playing sports, mainly because Elena quit them. But the famous athlete, when she turned 15, being a master of sports at her young age, switched to another athletics discipline - pole vaulting. Elena's height did not allow her to continue training in artistic gymnastics - she was quite tall for her 15 years.

It's no secret that starting to train in an unfamiliar sport at the age of 15 is very risky. But Elena did not know how to give up, and soon began to show impressive results. The girl was brought into this sport by Alexander Lisovoy, who recommended Isinbayev to the famous coach Evgeny Trofimov. Trofimov became the coach who was able to train Elena literally from scratch, and Isinbaeva did not let her down. After training for six months, Isibaeva won her debut competition - the World Youth Games in Moscow. This was just the beginning of her career.

Career in sports

At the moment, the athlete has her own tactics in her discipline. She divides her attempts by height: warm-up, winning and record. For a particular type of jump, a specific pole is designed, which differs from others in the winding, or rather its color. So, for warm-up jumps, Elena chose pink, for winning jumps - blue, and to set world records, the athlete chose golden.
After her first triumph in 1998 at the World Youth Games, Isinbayeva won a similar competition a year later, breaking a new bar. Soon the track and field athletics “pole vault” was included in the Olympic program, and the athlete had the opportunity to take part in the most authoritative competition in the world. Unfortunately, she did not perform well at the selections and ultimately did not make it to the final part of the competition.

After an unsuccessful qualification, the famous jumper began to work even harder and already in 2001 she was able to win the European Junior Championships, achieving a result of 4.42 meters. A year later, the famous athlete won silver in the same competition, losing only to another Russian, Feofanova. In addition, the athlete took part in the International Festival, which was held in Germany, setting a new record for juniors - 4.47 meters. In 2003, the annual world championship was held in France, where Elena won bronze.

Sports recognition

Real success and popularity came to Isinbayeva after the 2004 Olympics in Athens. The main rivals at those games were two representatives of Russia: Isinbayeva and Feofanova. In a very close fight, Isinbayeva prevailed, winning her first Olympic gold and setting a world record. A year after the triumph, Elena changed her coach and began working with Vitaly Petrov.

In 2005, Elena took part in two competitions: the Super Grand Prix and the London Grand Prix. In both cases, the athlete won medals of the highest standard. At the Super Grand Prix, to win, Isinbayeva needed to clear a height of 4.75 meters; she eventually managed to overcome 4.93, setting a record. At the London Grand Prix, Isinbayeva raised her record height by 7 centimeters. After some time, she stated that the height of 5 meters is average for her, and she plans to increase her records.

In the summer of 2008, the Grand Prix competition took place in Monaco. By coincidence, the famous athlete at that time lived and trained in Monaco. At these competitions, Elena was able to set a record of 5.04 meters.

The next stop in Isinbayeva’s records was Beijing, the 2008 Olympics. Elena arrived in the capital of China as a renowned athlete, Olympic champion and world record holder. Everyone was waiting for the second Olympic gold and another record. And she lived up to expectations, proving once again that she is the strongest jumper in the world. To become a two-time Olympic champion, the athlete only needed two jumps; the winning bar was 4.85 meters. For her last jump, Isinbayeva set the bar at 5.05 meters and successfully surpassed it, setting an outstanding record that no one can surpass to this day.

In 2009, the famous athlete took part in the world championship, which took place in Berlin, but failed and was unable to overcome any heights. With tears in her eyes, the famous athlete explained this failure by saying that she was too confident in her abilities and apologized to the coach.

In 2012, at the London Olympics, the great jumper was only able to win bronze medals with a score of 4.70 meters. A year later, at another world championship, Elena won gold. After winning this championship, Isinbayeva decided to take a break from her career as she was expecting a child.
Isinbayeva wanted to return to the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Unfortunately, she was never able to participate, since our entire athletics team was disqualified due to a doping scandal. Isinbayeva herself had nothing to do with doping and until recently filed an application to review the case, but all attempts were denied.

Personal life

Elena never flaunted her personal life. It was known about one athlete’s romance with DJ Artyom, which did not last long. Isinbayeva often mentioned in interviews that she would like to have a child. In 2014, her daughter Eva was born. Elena's husband is track and field athlete Nikita Petinov. They celebrated their wedding in 2014.

Isinbayeva has many awards and titles. In addition to her achievements in sports, she is an officer and holds the rank of major in the railway troops. She has an agreement with the Ministry of Defense of our country, and she periodically conducts classes at a military school.

The bright and world-famous athlete Elena Gadzhievna Isinbaeva conquers the top of sports podiums in high vaulting. A woman often notices that she, in the literal sense of the word, was born with a pole in her hands, since she got into this sport when she was barely five.

Elena is grateful to her parents, because they not only brought her into big sports, but also because they helped her survive the bitterness of defeat and the fact that she was expelled from school with the stigma of professional unsuitability. Isinbayeva claims that athletic heights can be achieved only with a reliable support in the form of parents, spouse and children.
