  • Boris Zhitkov became the prototype of one of the main characters in the film “Look Back for a Moment.” (1984, Odessa Film Studio, directed by Vyach. Kolegaev), played by actor Viktor Proskurin (and his friend K.I. Chukovsky - Oleg Efremov). From this fact alone we can say that he was interesting and an unusual person. But this is too little to characterize him. If we try to do this briefly, we can say that he was a man of adventure, with extraordinary talents and an extraordinary destiny.
  • Boris Zhitkov was born on August 30, 1882 in Novgorod; His father was a mathematics teacher, his mother a pianist.
  • In 1924, Zhitkov began publishing and soon became a professional writer. Wide life experience and impressive knowledge in many fields of activity are reflected in the writer’s stories about science. Zhitkov wrote about different professions.
  • Zhitkov was:
  1. organizer shadow theater
  2. author of the unfinished book " History of the ship"
  3. cycle " Stories about technology", addressed to youth

The work of Zhitkov, a classic of Russian children's literature, who can also be considered the founder of the scientific and artistic genre in children's literature, which had a significant influence on many children's writers.

Think and answer at the end of my story, is Zhitkov’s work really a classic of Russian children’s literature?

  • Zhitkov's heroes often find themselves in extreme situations. About this cycles “On the water”, “Above the water”, “Under the water”, “Mechanic of Salerno” and many others, which you will learn further
  • Cycle of children's stories "What I Saw"

The main character of the cycle is the inquisitive boy “Alyosha-Pochemuchka”, whose prototype was the writer’s little neighbor in a communal apartment, Alyosha Nekrasov.

(video “why an elephant”) 0:21- 0:50. (“...name is Alyosha”)

The most difficult task for the writer was to construct a narrative from the perspective of a four-year-old boy. Well understanding the conventionality of this form, Zhitkov saw in it a guarantee of accessibility for children's perception.

Little Alyosha’s speech is rich in vivid comparisons and unexpected comparisons.

For example, this is how a radio tower is described:

“And very far away is the tower. Only it looks like it’s made of ribbons. Everything is visible through and through.”

About the hotel lobby it is said:

“The room is big, big. The floor shines like ice. And very slippery. And rugs on the floor, like paths in the garden.”

  • Cycle of children's stories “What Happened”

We are talking about extreme incidents. At the same time, they are all from the category of “what happened”: a river flood, a fire on a ship, a landslide in the mountains, a snow storm in the tundra. People find themselves captive of the unfolding elements and, it would seem, doomed to death. However, Zhitkov’s heroes are in no hurry to fold their arms: in the most difficult conditions they continue to fulfill their duty. Their actions are a true feat. For example, the work “Flood”

  • The captain of the stock exchange selflessly saves people from the threat of flooding while the threat looms over his home. But the captain’s relatives were saved - strangers also took care of them. Safe resolution dramatic situation- not an accident, but a law of life.

(audio recording Flood 2:38)

These lines hide the whole meaning of the work about mutual assistance.

  • Another work from the series “What Happened” is the story “How I Caught Little Men”

Written from a child's point of view. The events in it are intertwined in two planes - real and imaginary. IN real world A grandmother’s ban hangs over the boy: he must not touch the model steamboat, which is considered a family heirloom. In an imaginary world, the steamboat becomes a real ship with a live crew.

The child is completely captivated by the pursuit of imaginary people. He invents different ways to take them by surprise, and when this fails, in the excitement of the game he breaks the steamboat. The feeling of deep disappointment is aggravated by the consciousness of irreparable guilt. And this evokes sympathy for the hero despite the fact that we are talking about a serious act. Refusing moralizing, Zhitkov shows that children's play reveals valuable qualities of a child's personality: activity, perseverance, ingenuity, curiosity.

  • For example, the story “About an Elephant”

The story is told by a long-distance sailor who made a trip to India on a ship. Despite the fact that the elephant occupies the main place in the story, an important role belongs to the figure of the narrator. Like a child, he burns with impatience, waiting to meet an exotic animal.

The narrator is childishly happy about the fulfillment of his dream. The story ends with an episode in which the work of elephants is described as exhausting, backbreaking work. This attitude towards an animal causes a painful feeling that darkens the joy of meeting. It is not exoticism, but humanity that comes to the fore in the story.

  • Another story from the series about animals “Mongoose”

This is a true story about the adventures and exploits of two cheerful and brave mongoose animals on a large ship. The habits of the unusual animal are described as fun game, in which, like a child, an adult is included. At the same time, the narrator remains an attentive observer who knows that communication with animals requires patience from a person. the grin gives way to respect when it comes to the dexterity and fearlessness of the mongoose when confronted with a snake. The last episode of the story is the imaginary death of one of the mongooses. Her return to life causes outright joy among those around her.

(mongoose audio recording 14:08. “... they loved her so much”)

This ending to the story speaks of the triumph of philanthropy.

  • Zhitkov died in 1938.

Along with V.V. Bianchi and E.I. Charushin, Boris Zhitkov is considered the founder of the scientific and artistic genre in children's literature. His work had a significant influence on many children's writers.

  1. The style of the stories is unusual - these are action-packed short stories, written in the form of a “case in life”, usually dramatic.
  2. Zhitkov’s works are full of action, he often uses the form of conversation with the reader, and always writes figuratively and clearly.
  3. The goal of Zhitkov’s creativity is to provide children with useful information and cultivate in them the best human qualities

The life and work of Boris Zhitkov. Zhitkov Boris Stepanovich. (1882-1932) Biography of B.S. Zhitkov Memoirs of K. Chukovsky Creativity of the writer Reading books by B. Zhitkov Boris Zhitkov was born in 1882 in Novgorod. His father was a very good mathematics teacher, and his mother was an excellent pianist. Boris was six years old when the family moved to the village to live with his grandmother. Soon the family moved to Odessa. A new, sparkling world opened up before the boy: the sea, the port, steamships, snow-white sailboats. They lived right in the harbor, and ships passed by their windows. “We were the same age, we studied in the same class at the Odessa Second Gymnasium. I was impressed by his importance, because I myself was very fidgety and talkative and there was not a shadow of solidity in me. He taught me everything: French, tying sea knots, recognizing insects and birds, swimming, catching tarantulas... ...And he was very happy when, twenty-six years after separation, he appeared on the doorstep. Boris stayed with me the whole day. He told the children different sea stories. When I was getting ready to leave, I said: “Listen, Boris, why don’t you become a writer?” Try to describe the adventures you just talked about, it will turn out to be a good book! A few days later he brought a school notebook and soon became convinced that the editor's pencil had nothing to do. My joy was boundless: literature for children and teenagers gained a reliable force in the person of this forty-year-old sailor, shipbuilder, mathematician, and physicist.” K.I. Chukovsky S. Marshak met Zhitkov as a long-awaited friend. At that time, Marshak headed the children's magazine Sparrow, which he created. Zhitkov began working in Marshakov’s magazine with extraordinary enthusiasm. Zhitkov is the main character of the famous children's poem "Mail" by Samuil Marshak. - Ordered from Rostov For comrade Zhitkov! - Custom made for Zhitkov? Sorry, there is no such thing! I flew to London yesterday at seven fourteen in the morning. Zhitkov rushes abroad through the air - the Earth turns green below. And after Zhitkov, in a mail car, a registered letter is being carried “Zhitkov avoids obsessive morality, but the young and inexperienced reader himself clearly distinguishes in his books the struggle against evil, truth against lies. But the biased characterization, not the recommendation given by the author, but the behavior of his characters in difficult and acute situations gives us an idea of their feelings and characters. In moments of difficult trials - during a storm, a wreck, a blizzard - you see more clearly who is brave, generous, generous and who is selfish, petty, cowardly. Talking about the main, most essential features of a person is the job of a real, great writer, and children’s writers in particular. Boris Zhitkov knew how to do this.” S. Marshak In order to write these stories, talent alone was not enough. It was necessary to live the kind of life that Boris Stepanovich Zhitkov lived. Boris Stepanovich graduated from the university with a diploma in chemistry, had the title of navigator, was a shipbuilding engineer, spoke a dozen languages, could answer any question, for all this he was called a “living encyclopedia.” Very simple, at first glance, his stories were the fruits of a lot of work. He composed them for years, putting words to words in his mind but not writing down a single line. And only when it was completely separated and forever fixed in memory did Boris Zhitkov write it down - and for this it took one or two days. One might say that since childhood his hand has been drawn to the pen, “pen to paper.” He published handwritten magazines. I kept diaries all my life. His letters are sometimes whole stories. Once, for his nephew, Boris Stepanovich came up with a long story in letters with a continuation. He also wrote poetry: he had a whole notebook of them. In addition, he turned out to be a great storyteller. Yes, and there was something to tell him about. More than anything in the world, he loved the sea and its workers - sailors, fishermen, stokers, port workers, mechanics, captains of small and large ships. It was here, at sea, face to face with nature, that both the good and bad sides of man are most fully revealed. When you read his stories on a maritime theme, you often turn to an explanatory dictionary for an explanation of the meaning of words. Therefore, in class, from the words found in B. Zhitkov’s stories, we compiled a “Dictionary of Marine Expressions.” The forecastle is the bow part of the deck. Close-hauled - when a ship is sailing so that the wind blows almost at the bow of the ship. The mizzen is the third mast, counting from the bow. A windlass is a machine used to raise an anchor. Breeze is a wind that blows from the shore. Shrouds are ropes that go from the mast to the sides. Goth mast is the second mast, counting from the bow. Drift-demolition of a vessel downwind. Galley is the kitchen on a ship. Wake - this is what they say when ships sail in single file. Kubrick is a common sailor's cabin at the bow of the ship. North-west direction is almost due west. Zhitkov is a master of words. A person who skillfully and creatively performs his work is called a master. We call Boris Stepanovich Zhitkov a master. Reading his books, we find ourselves in a workshop, a rich, elegant, talented workshop of words. Who in childhood did not take apart their toys out of curiosity? What is there - inside, inside a drum, a locomotive, a watch or a steamship? Do you want to know what the boy was looking for inside the steamer in the story “How I Caught Little Men” “I kept looking at the steamer. And probably little people live in it. Small, just the size of the ship. It turned out that they should be slightly lower than the match. They're probably peeking. And when no one is home, they go out onto the deck. They’re probably climbing ladders to the masts.” What I saw B. Zhitkov created many books for young readers, his greatest achievement is the creation of a kind of encyclopedia for preschoolers “What I saw” “This book is about things. I wrote it with ages from three to six years in mind. This book should be enough for a year. Let the reader live in it and grow. I warn you again: don’t read too much! Better to read it again from the beginning.” And the stories “About an Elephant” or “A Stray Cat” could have been written by a person who not only loved animals, but also understood them. How can one not remember that Boris Zhitkov had both a trained wolf and a cat who knew how to “become a monkey.” The trained poodle performed all sorts of tricks and understood (as Zhitkov claimed) two hundred words. Zhitkov rented a separate room, where he settled with his four-legged friends: a dog, a cat and a small wolf cub, which he decided to tame. And there, in the cage, the bear walked past the bars and looked at everyone. He looks like a dog. Only he's fat. And the eyes are very small, black.” From the story “Zoo” “I saw a large cage, and an animal was walking in it, and it had half its hair. And the back has short fur. Only he is very big and yellow, not black. And he looked very angrily... This is a book for those who love long journeys and want to become a hero. After all, what happens: Robinson was an adult, Captain Nemo was an adult, fifteen-year-old Captain Dick Sand was almost an adult. But children also want to travel and how! And so Boris Zhitkov wrote a book about a child who set off on a journey across a vast country and told what he saw. And he saw a lion in the zoo, and the Red Army during exercises, and a bear in the forest, and a mysterious rope on a string. It’s not for nothing that the book is called “All about the adventures of big and small.” We answer the quiz questions Illustrations for the stories of B. Zhitkov Quiz based on the stories of B. Boris Stepanovich Zhitkov (1882-1938)

His father was a mathematics teacher at the Novgorod Teachers' Institute,

Mother is a pianist.

He spent his childhood in Odessa. He received his primary education at home, then graduated from high school. During his studies, he became friends with K.I. Chukovsky.

He was not even ten years old, but he already swam superbly, dived, and went alone on a boat far out to sea, causing the envy of the neighboring boys. None of his classmates could tie sea knots, row, predict the weather, or recognize insects and birds better or faster than him. He always liked simple and courageous people who are not afraid of any difficulties or dangers.

Will and perseverance helped him master many professions. Zhitkov worked as a chemist, shipbuilder and even a long-distance navigator. He fulfilled his dream: he visited many cities and countries around the world, circumnavigated the world and went on scientific expeditions.

But Boris Zhitkov did not intend to become a writer.

He was simply famous among his friends as a wonderful storyteller. Once Upon a Request

K.I. Chukovsky Zhitkov wrote down one of his stories.

This sealed his fate.

Everything that Zhitkov wrote about, he had a chance to see in life with his own eyes.

or do it yourself.

That's why his stories are so fascinating.

From the very first lines, readers are concerned about whether the passengers of the overturned plane will be saved.

during a storm on a sailing ship

(story “Squall”), will the sailors manage to remove the compass from the steamship seized by traitors (“Compass”), will a feral cat get used to a person and make friends with a dog (“Stray Cat”). And such true stories Boris Zhitkov told us a lot about human compassion for “our smaller brothers” - animals.

Zhitkov died of lung cancer

He was buried at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.
